Johnston Boilers
Commercial & Industrial Boilers
Today's Johnston boiler reflects more than 160 years of engineering refinement, with each model built on design principles proven across decades of demanding industrial service. Founded in 1864, Johnston is the oldest American boiler manufacturer still operating from its original location, and it has spent that entire history specializing in water-backed Scotch Marine firetube boilers. Each unit is engineered for dependable steam and hot water output under real operating conditions, delivering high reliability through efficient heat transfer, stable performance across a wide load range, and construction built to last for decades.
Because Johnston designs, fabricates, and fire tests the complete boiler in one facility, including both the pressure vessel and the burner, the combustion side and the pressure vessel are matched for clean, efficient firing and consistent output. The water-backed design keeps the boiler's heat transfer surfaces submerged in water, which reduces refractory, lowers maintenance, and helps avoid the costly door repairs common to dryback designs. Every boiler is fire tested across its full operating range before it ships.
This video traces Johnston's history and shows how its boilers are custom built and fire tested under one roof. At CCS, we offer the full Johnston Boiler product line, and our technicians are prepared to install and support your new boiler system.
